May Arrivals

I love this time of year that brings so many familiar and well loved sights and smells.  Now that the days are longer, evenings outside together are my favorite.

The garden is growing (little plants and huge weeds) and the lavender is in bloom.  Scents of honeysuckle drift through on the breeze.

This week outside we've had precious little furry playmates...

Yes, our mama finally brought her four kittens down from the tree where she had them.  I haven't introduced you to Freckles yet... she's a stray that adopted us and I was never sure if she was going to stay for good.  But she's become a permanent resident now for several months and is so sweet and gentle.

Jillian has been over the moon as you can tell.  And honestly, I've found myself sitting out on the grass with the girls too, cuddling kittens and soaking in the sunshine and the sweet fragrance of spring in bloom...

Have a wonderful weekend and Memorial Day!

just what a mother should be doing

I teach middle school in a poverty area and so many of my students lack parental support. Just imagine if everyone had a mother who would stop and take the time to just sit and cuddle!

  3. I have the same type of lavender in bloom in my backyard...the kind with the little "top knot". Your girlies and the kittens are so cute. Aren't the longer days heavenly?

  5. It's gone back to frost temperatures here so I shall just pretend I'm in your yard cuddling a kitten and watching your girls dance about the garden. I've had many strays here, who have had kittens in odd places but never in a tree!

    1. Yes, it was a dead tree that had a hollow spot... I guess she must have felt like it was the safest place. I couldn't figure out where she had had them... I looked in every logical spot... when I saw her climb the tree (about 14' high) I could not believe it! I was a little worried but then I decided she probably knew best. Sure enough, she came down with the kittens at the perfect time and they all looked healthy as could be. :-) Glad you are enjoying my mom's blog too!

  12. I love the second photo of the lavender with your little girl in the background - cute! Last evening we took our dogs for a walk on a bike/running trail and the smell of honeysuckle was thick in the air. It was so pleasant.

The kitties are adorable, but I must ask if you have thought about getting the mamma spayed after she weans her kittens. I'm a big proponent of spay/neuter. We have a volunteer program here that takes feral cats to be spayed or neutered and also given rabies vaccinations and other shots. The cats remain "strays" but at least they are not reproducing and adding to the overpopulation problem.

  15. Love the little peeks of your home and family. Your shares always take me back to when I was a young mom raising our children. Who doesn't love adorable little kittens. Your girls sure do have some wonderful smiles and we know why. They are so blessed to have such loving, caring and nuturing parents. You and Justus have truly worked so hard at creating such a beautiful home. Have a wonderful holiday weekend Andrea.
